PERSONALITY OVERVIEW
Ravi is an intensely hard-working man, though it’s not that he holds ambition the way others might. He builds himself an army of facts and figures and sources to defend himself in order to pursue his hobbies. Other people might see themselves leaping to new positions of power, but Ravi would just be happy to do his job excellently while amassing as much information as he can. Always hungry for more information and observant to the situations around him, Ravi stumbled upon zombies with his critical observations and need to ask questions when the situation doesn’t make sense. He’s an outgoing and easy-to-like man who is able to take challenges as they come without being too bowled over by them. Clever, geeky, and quick with wit, Ravi’s always got a comment ready though he sometimes puts his foot in his mouth - one of the perils of being a medical examiner is that most of your patients don’t mind the jokes. Ravi’s also got the unfortunate downfall of becoming singularly focused on something and it typically has an edge of pessimistic realism to it. After being fired from the CDC for an obsession over planning for a biological attack, Ravi transferred his dedications and energies to finding a zombie cure to prevent an apocalypse. His predictions that humanity would build its own end became slightly prophetic, even though he would mostly be called paranoid by any normal person.
Loyal to a fault, Ravi is caring and deeply concerned with the plight of his friends. He would do anything to help Liv with her zombie problem. He also is quick to deep hurt when betrayed by his friends or abandoned by them. He’s a brilliant man, though this is reinforced by his hard work and not simply savant genius. He often can think outside the box when approaching a problem, but is rigorous in his scientific methods and always follows a process to ensure that he isn’t taking risks. He is still very cautious, especially with his experiments and cures, and is detail-oriented to a fault with his work. A geek from his childhood, Ravi is well-acquainted with being an outsider to society, though his brains, good looks, and charm help to make up for any geekish awkwardness that might drive people away (especially when combined with his smart-aleck sense of humour). While Ravi is extremely patient, even those limits can be stressed with the failure he so often encounters with his experiments and with Liv’s zombie condition.
Ravi is able to compartmentalize in order to put things in order of importance. No matter what he’s feeling, he still understands how to prioritize, though he’s not quite good enough to completely turn off his emotions and so his betrayals and angers and amusements often bleed into whatever that priority might be. He takes his work very seriously and knows that while there’s time for a joke here and there, the job still comes first.
PERSONALITY QUESTIONS
What skills does your character bring to the situation?:
More than anything, Ravi is very thorough and by the book when it comes to evaluating a situation and approaching solutions. He would be a hard worker from helping to tend to the gardens, but he would also be very methodical about helping to ensure any explorations were being done efficiently and without waste. Along with this, Ravi’s skills as a medical examiner with zombie extra curriculars will permit him to be an additional medical resource to the community when it comes to patching people up, but also in evaluating situations as they might arise (ie: polluted water, disease, etc.) Ravi will also bring a helpful levity, trying to add some lightness to even the worst of situations. As well, his persistence means that no matter how bad things get, he doesn’t give up.
Explain how your character would react to the following:
- Discovering that their memories may have been tampered with:
This will wreak havoc on Ravi, who likes everything in order. He will feel out of control and like he’s one of his own rats in a macro-experiment. It will blow his mind to a degree that may fracture his sanity a touch, given that his whole life recently has been about creating a controlled experiment to put his rats through. Finding out that he’s the rat and he’s being controlled will make him re-evaluate how the universe is actually working and make him feel slightly infinitesimal. He’ll also be able to have a better appreciation for what Liv has to go through, what with not having full control of her mind at all times.
- Having to do physical labor to survive:
While Ravi is far from muscle-bound, he’s also been living with a personal trainer for a year and some of Major’s lessons have rubbed off. Beyond that, Ravi is no stranger to physical labour in order to accomplish a goal. He will simply have to transition from digging holes to find a body to stop the zombie apocalypse to doing physical labour in order to stay alive. It’s sort of a ‘another day, different scenery’ situation from him and though he’ll get sore and complain, he’ll willingly go beyond the limit to ensure they have what they need.
- Having to share resources with others:
While Ravi might want to apply the scientist lens on this (giving resources where they would be most beneficial), he also wouldn’t restrict any resources from people who are in desperate need of them. That said, he would still likely make sure that the person getting the resources is still the person who needs them most, especially in a scarcity economy.
- Being unable to leave the area:
While being unable to leave will frustrate Ravi, he’s also never been too fussed about living anywhere in particular. He makes the most of being wherever he is. Being forced to stay and live in one place won’t really itch at him because it’s not like he does much travelling and when he’s focused on things like staying alive and keeping the community fairly free of injury and disease, he won’t have too much time to miss out on travelling to other places.
- Doing without modern conveniences and technology and/or being around tech more advanced than they're used to:
Ravi will be increasingly frustrated with not having the technology he needs, especially when it comes to needing it to do the sort of experiments he will want to. In addition to that, he will also be frustrated with the lack of gaming, media, and other media materials like books as he often turned to them as a way to burn off steam after a long day (particularly a good game of Diablo III). He will need to find another way to get through any frustrations and will likely turn to work or he will have to come up with new, primitive style games in order to allow himself a brief break from the humdrum of a survivalist lifestyle
- Being separated, possibly permanently, from loved ones and their previous life, including loss of powers, if applicable:
Ravi will miss his support system of Liv, Peyton, and Major the most, separated from them at home. That said, both of those friendships are fairly new and Ravi is a gregarious and outgoing man and will make it a point to create new connections for himself as he’s all too aware of the importance of social connection in times of stress. Given that he will still have purpose (maybe not as a medical examiner, but still in a medical capacity), his purpose will only be skewed slightly rather than completely removed, which will help him to adjust to a different version of his life. The one thing that will keep him awake at night, however, is the worry that his absence will hasten a zombie apocalypse back home, but, doesn’t everyone have those kinds of worries?
